SUSTAINABLE WATER USE TRAINING FOR COMMUNITY LEADERS

TRAINING OF WATER STAKEHOLDERS ON SUSTAINABLE WATER USE

In Afmadoow, communities face severe water shortages due to prolonged droughts and inefficient water management. USDI is working with community leaders, water vendors, and local water management structures to improve sustainable water use and ensure fair access to water resources.

Project Objectives:

  • Enhance local capacity to manage water resources efficiently.
  • Reduce conflicts over water access through community engagement and governance structures.
  • Promote water conservation techniques for long-term sustainability.

Key Activities:

  1. Training on Water Conservation Techniques

USDI is educating stakeholders on rainwater harvesting, groundwater recharge methods, and efficient irrigation techniques to optimize water use. Communities are being trained on best practices for water storage and distribution to ensure equitable access.

  1. Strengthening Water Governance

Water disputes are a common source of conflict in Somalia. USDI is working with local leaders to establish community-led water governance structures that promote transparency and fairness in water distribution.

  1. Infrastructure Improvements

USDI is assessing existing water infrastructure and providing technical support for rehabilitating wells, boreholes, and storage tanks to increase access to clean and reliable water sources.

By implementing these interventions, USDI is fostering sustainable water management practices that will benefit present and future generations.
